Asia

In Burmese Days, George Orwell describes a country in conflict — between modernity and tradition, between independence and foreign influence. A curious land where the air is hot and heavy, where garlic finds its way into every meal, and where the past is never really gone. That was our goal in 2017: to find that Burma, to meet its people, fierce and proud, to discover their traditions and their culture. There, we found one of our favorite places on earth — the mythical city of a thousand temples, Bagan.

Everyone has heard of Thailand — it’s the place to go. We’re not especially fond of beaches (except when we can dive), but the country offers far more than that. We found quiet mountain roads, hidden temples, and misty valleys. Driving north, around the Golden Triangle, we reached regions where life still follows the rhythm of the fields and the monasteries.

Further east, Laos revealed a different pace — slower, more serene. The Mekong flows through everything, carrying stories, markets, and time itself. Cambodia, on the other hand, struck us with its contrasts: the gentle smiles of its people and the silent grandeur of Angkor, rising from the jungle like a dream of stone.

In Vietnam, we explored the far north, where rice terraces shape the mountains and the mist hides the villages at dawn. The landscapes are pure harmony — green, humid, alive.

Singapore was another world entirely — a vertical, vibrant city, where modernity and tropical nature somehow coexist. It felt like the perfect bridge between two Asias: one of glass and speed, the other of water and silence.

And then there was Indonesia, vast and wild. From volcanoes to coral reefs, from Java’s temples to the deep islands of the East, it’s a place where the sky, the sea, and the land never seem to stop moving.

Asia never feels finished. Every journey there opens another door, another question, another horizon.
